In 2008, there was an experiment to bring Superhero films to the mainstream. Marvel Studios partnered with Disney to bring together Marvel’s most popular heroes and create a cinematic universe that would have the potential to make billions, and it did. Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow would come together to make the Avengers. After 22 films, 11 years, billions of dollars at the box office, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has molded the modern template to create a successful film at the box office. Others have tried such as DC, Godzilla, The Universal Dark Universe have all tried but none have bettered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Endgame is the end of this phase and for some an end of chapter that has meant so much to fans, and so much to me.
After the events of Avengers: Infinity War half the population of the universe turned to dust from Thanos using the 6 Infinity Stones. Endgame starts with Tony Stark stranded in space with Nebula. Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk and War Machine band together to try and defeat Thanos and find a way to bring back everyone that has turned into dust.
Avengers: Endgame is one of the biggest films to be released in modern cinema history. This is not just a film, it is an event. This is what IMAX 3D was made for and I was ready, sat in a packed cinema theatre on a Saturday morning. This film was eleven years in the making.
First of all the film is long at the runtime hitting three hours but it flew by. The first act was a little slow but once it stepped up a gear, the film’s pace was frantic and the whole three hours felt like half the time. The film is so full of immersive action, it truly is a great spectacle to behold. The climatic film does not hold back and it is littered with awesome moments that left my jaw on the floor and made the crowd of people either loudly applaud or cry.
This film will hit you straight at the heart. There has never been a film that has made me emote and be so invested that even writing this review now I am getting goosebumps. This was the film I wanted, the film I needed and was the perfect film to resolve a 11 year experiment. I know there is more films to come from the MCU but this does feel like the end. I left the film speechless and full of joy. It was a peculiar moment that I don’t think I would ever experience again from a film.
The soundtrack was brilliant, the visuals was some of the best in the franchise. The in character dialogue was sharp and witty. The action was loud and immersive. Just every cog in this film was well oiled and worked together fantastically to create an event that led to a perfect climatic resolution. This film will pull you in and feel all kind of emotions. This could be considered the greatest Marvel film ever made. There is few moments when the hype is ever matched, especially in the world of social media. However, I believe that Avengers: Endgame was everything it claimed to be and much more.
The Russo’s has done it again and made something that will break box office records and entertain millions of fans. Endgame would of made Thanos proud because it was perfectly balanced with great visuals, a powerful score, comedic dialogue and impactful emotional moments. This will never happen again, it will be replicated but never matched. I have never been impacted by a film like I have been with Endgame. This film is beautiful and to me, perfect.
